One-Parent Family Payment

The One-Parent Family Payment is the main payment made to men and women who have the main care of the children or are parenting alone. One-Parent Family Payment can be paid to only one parent, it is a means-tested payment, and there are conditions for eligibility. It can be paid until the youngest child is 7, and then you may be eligible to move to the Jobseeker’s Transitional Payment. The details of the One-Parent Family Payment are set out here:

One-Parent Family Payment and Maintenance

One-Parent Family Payment can be paid at the same time as maintenance is being received from the second parent. This may affect the amount of the payment. In Irish law, both parents are legally obliged to provide for their children.
