Booking an Appointment

The Counselling service is open to women and men who are parenting alone or sharing parenting, to pregnant women and expectant parents, and to teenagers and adolescents in one-parent and shared parenting families.

We always try to ensure that you are seen as soon as possible. How often you attend, or for how long, will be decided between you and your counsellor.

If you would like to talk with a counsellor, or find out more about any of the counselling services available to you, please call 01 662 9212.

Fees

We charge a small fee on a sliding scale for General and Solution Focused Counselling services, and our focus is always on ensuring that financial constraints are not a barrier to anyone who wishes to avail of these services.

One Family Counselling

Sometimes people think that going to see a counsellor means they cannot cope with life and that people will think they are ‘cracking up’. There is no big deal about counselling. If we have a persistent pain, we go to the doctor. If we chip a tooth, we go to the dentist. If we are in emotional distress we should certainly consider seeing a counsellor. Pain on the inside is no less painful and when it gets bad, getting help is really important.

General Counselling

Counselling offers you a space to talk through what you are feeling or what is going on for you in a supportive and non-judgemental way. Our counsellor is there to really listen to you; to hear what you actually say and to help you explore the thoughts and feelings behind your words. The counsellor trusts in your ability to live your own life and, unlike well-meaning but often opinionated family members or friends around you, will not try to influence you in any way. Your One Family counsellor will support you to find your own answers.

Solution Focused Counselling

This type of counselling can support you if you feel you have a particular issue or problem that you are dealing with. You are the expert in your own situation and our counsellor will work with you to determine your goals and how to meet them. We aim to support you to identify what is working and how to do more of it, to stop what is not working and start something else instead, and to focus on what is possible. Solution Focused Counselling is often more short-term than General Counselling, but you can decide how many sessions you would like as we move from problem solving to finding solutions.
