Vacancy: My Options Telephone Counsellor
Location: Hybrid (Ireland-based)
Salary: €25,118.17 (for 16.5 hours per week)

About Us
My Options is a free, confidential support service for people experiencing unplanned or crisis pregnancy and those who have had an abortion. Funded by the HSE, we provide compassionate, non-judgmental counselling, information, support and signposting by phone along with webchat information and support. Our service is staffed by professional counsellors working in shifts, operating Monday to Saturday, offering vital support across Ireland.
We are currently recruiting a Telephone Counsellor to work 16.5 hours a week, across three days, including a Monday and Wednesday. The My Options phoneline operates from 9am to 8pm, Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7pm Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturday, with two shifts operating each weekday. There may be some flexibility in hours offered and additional shifts may be available.
About the Role
This is a dynamic and impactful role for someone who is passionate about sexual health and reproductive rights.
The key responsibilities are:
- providing telephone support and counselling on all options for unplanned pregnancy
- giving information on abortion services in Ireland
- providing information and support online via webchat
- providing post-abortion counselling
- handling sensitive issues with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- maintaining a high professional and ethical standard in provision of care to clients.
- attending relevant internal and external supervisions and trainings
- maintaining all relevant administration, monitoring information and data
- following all policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines
- contributing to evaluations, policy, reports and funding applications, as requested
Essential skills:
- Have a minimum of 3 years post qualification counselling experience
- Have a relevant counselling/ psychotherapy qualification
- Be a fully accredited member of IACP, IAHIP, FTAI or equivalent
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Have experience of working in a team
- Have a client-focussed perspective
- Have proficient ICT skills including Microsoft 365 and digital systems
- Be available to work remotely, in an environment suitable for counselling work, yet within travelling distance of Dublin city
- Be enthusiastic and motivated
- Be well organised with good attention to detail.
Desirable skills:
- Experience in unplanned pregnancy and post-abortion counselling.
- Experience with telephone, online, or helpline counselling.
- Familiarity with Salesforce CRM or similar platforms.
- Experience in information provision and webchat support.

We are currently recruiting a Manager to lead and support our dedicated team and oversee the smooth running of this vital service.
About the Role
As the My Options Manager, you will be responsible for the operational management of the phoneline and webchat service. You will lead a team of experienced counsellors, ensure high-quality service delivery, and maintain the highest professional standards.
This is a dynamic and impactful role for someone who is passionate about sexual health and reproductive rights, has strong leadership skills, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Management & Leadership
- Oversee all operational aspects of the My Options phoneline and webchat services.
- Provide regular line management, supervision, and support to the counselling team.
- Manage team scheduling, including cover for planned and unplanned absences.
- Lead recruitment, induction, and training of new staff.
- Develop and maintain service policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Produce regular reports for funders and contribute to tenders and funding applications.
- Represent the service at external meetings and deliver presentations to stakeholders.
- Maintain service quality and professional standards, advocating for continuous improvement.
Service Delivery
- Provide phone and webchat support on unplanned pregnancy options and abortion services.
- Offer post-abortion counselling where needed.
- Stay informed on relevant support services to signpost service users effectively.
- Handle sensitive issues with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Essential skills:
- Passionate about reproductive rights and committed to client-centred care.
- Accredited counsellor (IACP, IAHIP, FTAI or equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification counselling experience.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a service or team management role.
- Experience in staff recruitment, induction, and training.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and digital systems.
Desirable skills:
- Experience in unplanned pregnancy and post-abortion counselling.
- Experience with telephone, online, or helpline counselling.
- Experience managing remote or hybrid teams.
- Familiarity with Salesforce CRM or similar platforms.
- Experience in online information provision and webchat support.
- Background in staff supervision and well-being support.
