With 1 in 8 people in Ireland living in one-parent family can you afford to be unaware of the particular issues facing one-parent families?
One-parent families face inequalities, particularly in relation to poverty and social exclusion, relative to other groups in society. This one-day, group-work course explores the concepts of family diversity, looks at the issues facing one-parent families how we as workers can support them and ourselves in our work.
After taking part in this training you will:
- have an in-depth understanding of the diversity of family life in Ireland;
- explore the myths and realities of living in a one parent family;
- understand the issues and barriers facing one-parent families;
- have a basic understanding of the rights and entitlements of one parent families;
- become aware of the services available to one parent families and supports which are available to workers .
Ideally suited to those working in health boards, family resource centres, partnerships, community development projects, youth service settings and education centres. If booked for a team, the training can be tailored to the particular issues facing the team in their work with one-parent families.
