One Family can* (campaigning and advocacy network)

One Family has been working and campaigning on behalf of one-parent families for over 36 years. Many of the issues we’ve fought for in the past are now basic rights in Ireland, for example we (as Cherish) campaigned successfully for the removal of illegitimacy for children born out of marriage; but there is still some way to go. More and more we live in a world that recognises that it is the and quality not the form of family relationships that matter. While the number of one-parent families is growing and evolving, more needs to be done to ensure that such families achieve their rights and live without fear of poverty or social exclusion.

can* brings together people who are interested in being involved in our campaigns to make Ireland a fairer and more equal place to live for one-parent family. The network includes parents, people who work with one-parent families and people who are interested in the rights of one-parent families.

Dialogue is vital in ensuring that One Family campaigns and services are responding to the real needs of lone parents. The role of can* is to provide us with a voice around the country that can ensure that we are in touch with the real issues affecting one-parent families in Ireland. can* members support our work in many ways by:

  • attending and promoting our events
  • providing feedback on issues and campaigns we work on
  • highlighting issues that One Family can take up
  • fundraising to help us run our services.
  • lobbying and campaigning locally on the issues we share
  • promoting our research and activities.
We are continually developing ways for our can* members to communicate and share their ideas on supporting one-parent families with us and always appreciate your input.
Please email us at can@onefamily.ie and tell us how we can best help you to advocate for changes that will make Ireland a great place to be a one-parent family.

Please see here for our latest posts relating to can*.

Together we can* make a difference!
