What: Volunteer event committee recruitment for this year’s “Learn How to Have a Champagne Party on a Bucks Fizz Budget” charity event.
Why: This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with what has been a very successful annual charity event. This year for the first time we are putting together an event committee of people who would volunteer their time to assist with the creation and roll out of November’s event, in areas like logistics, charity auction & raffle and ticket sales.
Why: To actively assist with an established charity event in aid of One Family, Ireland’s leading support organization for people who are parenting alone or sharing parenting and their children.
We are happy to say that Ross Golden Bannon (Editor of Food&Wine Magazine) will be working closely with us on this event as he has done in the past.
Articles, photos and mentions also appeared in The Sunday Independent, Metro Herald and Irish Examiner. We also had mentions and interviews on The Tubridy Show RTE 1, Clare FM, Dublin City FM, Country Mix, Phoenix FM, Near Fm, 4fm, Clare FM, Cork 103 and Highland Radio. Thanks to everyone who supported us.
One Family welcomes the new Minister for Social Protection Minister Éamon Ó Cuív T.D’s efforts to improve the economic situation and social wellbeing of people in one-parent families. However they remain gravely concerned as to the whether the reforms of the One-Parent Family Payment as recently announced will result in improved outcomes for lone parents and their children.
Candy Murphy, One Family Policy & Research Manager said “Given current and projected very high levels of unemployment which are putting extreme pressure on our education and training systems coupled with the serious inadequacies in our childcare system, especially after-school care, we believe that the proposed changes will mostly result in the movement of lone parents from one welfare support to another.”
Karen Kiernan and Candy Murphy of One Family are travelling to Sweden on Monday 26 April with Eurochild to investigate why child wellbeing outcomes are high, along with high labour market participation rates for women, including lone parents. One Family are the lead members of the tour and they are bringing policy makers from the Department of Social & Family Affairs, the HSE and the Office of the Minister for Children & Youth Affairs. Other countries participating include Wales, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Finland. They will all travel to Copenhagen on Wednesday and they will be meeting policy makers, politicians, academics, service providers and families. One Family is a member of Eurochild (www.eurochild.org) and a member of their working group on Family & Parenting Support

Seminal research by One Family which calls for a network of child contact centres in Ireland was launched this week by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Barry Andrews, TD, and the media response - including the front page of The Irish Examiner, three pieces in The Irish Times and other print coverage, along with a feature on RTE Radio 1’s Drivetime, interviews on TodayFM, Newstalk and FM104 – as well as many regional stations - proves just how important this research is. Candy Murphy, One Family Policy Manager and author of the report explains, ‘Child contact centres provide a safe, neutral and welcoming environment where regular contact between parents and children that do not live together can be supported and developed in a range of situations.’ For media coverage and information: Read more »
